OK so you wanna change your rims ehh? OK in this tutorial I will be using these models as examples:
Peterbilt 351 (aka Rusty)
Trailer14
To start off with let's go with trucks. If you want totally new rims you will need patch 1.8 or earlier. Patches 1.9 and 1.10 make your rims chrome whether you play on low, medium or high on the detail (not overall. just the regular detail button at the bottom)
To add your own, new, custom rims put your game on medium or low if patchless and just low if running any patch below 1.9.
Now go into the my documents\18WoS Across America\makes\truck\p351\acc\shared folder. (remember I'm using the Pete 351 in this tutorial. you can do this to any truck you like)
Once there open the wheel_f.png or wheel_r.png file in your paint program of choice. Put on the new rims that you would like. Then save it. Now when you load the game you'll see your all new rims.
I would go into more detail but it's not nessecary. When you load one of the wheel png files you'll see the rims. So no need to go into further detail.
Now let's say you only like running with the chromed out rims. Well here's where we get into trouble. You see those ugly 8 "slotted" rims are the model itself. When the game loads those chromed out rims it's reading straight from the psm file and totally ignores the wheel pngs. So how do we add new rims this way?
Well that's a touchy subject because your limited on what to choose from. But here's what you do:
On the Peterbilt 351 you have those 5 star rims on both the front and back. But on the Peterbilt 379 you have those 8 "slotted" rims on the front and back. Let's say you want to keep the 5 star rims on the front of the 351 but want the 8 slots on the rear. OK no prob. Here's what we do. follow carefully!
Go to the p379\acc\wheels0 folder. Copy the wheel_r.psm file.
Now go back to p351\acc\wheels0 folder. Paste the wheel_r.psm file you just copied in here. Now boot up the game and you'll see 5 star rims on the front and 8 slots on the rear. (note you will need to paste the wheel_r.psm file in all of the wheels folders. or you'll only have 8 "slotted" rims on that one set of tires and the 5 stars on the other sets)
Ok now let's go through the trailers. Trailer14 has 3 axles and "ual" wheels on each rim. Here in the USA the only tri-axle trailers I've ever seen were United trailers. And all of them had single wheels on each rim not doubles. So let's say we want those singles. Here's what we do.
go to p379\acc\wheels0 folder. copy the wheel_f.psm file. Now go to makes\trailer\trailer14\acc\wheel folder. Paste the wheel_f.psm file you just copied. And rename it to wheel_r.psm. NOTE!! If you cannot see the .psm file extension then DO NOT add .psm in the filename when you rename it. that'll actually make it wheel_r.psm.psm. The game will not load this!
Ok once renamed go ingame and either check the showroom or find a trailer14 trailer ingame. You'll now see you have single wheels on the rear.
Now you can also do like we did for the truck rims on the low setting if we wanted new rims altogether. To do that this time in the trailer14\acc\wheel folder you would open the wheel_r.png file and change the rims. Now when you go ingame you'll have totally new rims.
Well that is how we do that. Until next time keep the shiny side up, the greasy side down, and keep er at the limits.
